Research finds that a dog will no longer do a trick if another dog is rewarded and he is not.

To see if dogs have a sense when pay for work is fair, a kneeling
researcher asks for a paw to shake ... If that dog doesn't get treats for
repeated handshakes, but sees one of its pals rewarded with a bit of bread or
sausage ..., the unrewarded animal eventually goes on strike, refusing to shake
hands any more.

If I had been the researcher, I would have named one dog "Taxpayer" and the other "Welfare Recipient."

Barney Frank will no doubt totally ignore this study.

Don't hold your breath.

Caroline Baum of Bloomberg News suggests a John Galt Plan to fix the economy.

Today's economic and financial crisis would resolve itself more quickly and efficiently if the government got out [the hell] of the way.

But her own closing remarks demonstrate why it won't happen.

The bigger the mess, the more urgent the calls for a government solution, the more willing government is to oblige.

The purpose of the U.S. government since and including the New Deal isn't to protect people's rights, Caroline. It isn't even to ease every burden, as the Left would have you believe.

The purpose of post-Depression government in the United States is to grow the government.

And the people wouldn't stand for that if all the problems were solved.

So the problems won't get solved. The government will continue to cause problems and claim it's solving them, so the poor and uneducated will continue to believe they're being "rescued."

The next time you need a B, another B, or a T . . .

... make sure you get it from BB&T.

Because they are Randian Superheroes that do things that are actually, well, Randian.

And here you thought BB&T stood for "Bed, Bath, and Towel."

McCain: If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand.

I'd have to dig out my old copies of Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology or maybe Philosophy, Who Needs It to verify this, but I'm pretty sure that argument would make Ayn Rand vomit.

It smacks of the "Everybody knows..." argument and the "It's a proven fact ..." argument. What shall we call it, the "If you question it, you don't understand" argument?
